About Project Sunflower
Project Sunflower: “a million from one” was born from a simple belief: the people who understand you best are the people who have been through the same thing as you.
For kids and teens navigating chronic illness, life after diagnosis can feel isolating. Conversations with friends and family are often well-meaning, but they can miss the depth of what it really means to live inside a medical experience. Project Sunflower exists to fill that gap.
We are a community where young people can meet others who have faced similar challenges, share their stories, and build friendships rooted in empathy. Here, no one has to explain themselves. Everyone already understands.
Our community is open to medical teens across the state and beyond, with both virtual and in-person programs designed to meet members where they are.
Who we are for
- Teens and young adults who have experienced chronic illness or significant medical journeys.
- Families looking for a supportive community for their children.
- Anyone who wants to help young people feel less alone after a medical diagnosis.

The Founder
Project Sunflower was born from the founder’s lived experience. In April 2023, her life changed dramatically after she collapsed at school and was diagnosed with an aggressive, malignant brain tumor. Facing an uncertain future, her daily reality instantly became filled with doctor’s appointments and cancer treatments—all while navigating the pressures of high school.
Through this journey, she realized that children and families facing chronic illness often experience profound isolation, desperately needing community and support outside of the hospital walls. Inspired by her own battle, she founded Project Sunflower to ensure no child or family has to walk that path alone.
